Let’s assume your tax affairs haven’t been in order for quite some time now and you’ve been ignoring the problem. But, now you want to change all this.
You decide to apply for a Voluntary Disclosure Programme (VDP) so you can voluntarily disclose your tax affairs to SARS and avoid prosecution and harsh penalties.
Now you’re panicking because time isn’t on your side and you don’t know how to apply for a VDP through eFiling.
There’s no need to fret. Simply follow these five easy steps.
Here’s how to apply for a VDP in five easy steps through eFiling
Step #1: Log onto SARS eFiling (
Step #2: Click on the “Voluntary Disclosure” icon on the left hand side of the screen.
Step #3: A screen will appear. It will have your name and ID number appear on the screen. You’ll also have the option to make your application anonymously.
Step #4: Click on what type of tax you want VDP for and then continue.
Step #5: Once you finish completing the form, click the “File” button on the top of the page. The eFiling process will take you back to the home page and a message will appear that your application has been successful. Print this out and keep it on your records.
You’ll then have to wait for a response from SARS.
The taxman will evaluate your VDP application and your supporting documentation to see if you meet the requirements for a valid voluntary disclosure. If SARS needs additional information from you, it will either ask you for it or request a meeting.
It’s that simple. Apply for a VDP through eFiling by following these five steps.
