Use these four tips to easily submit your ITR12 on time, says SARS

#1: You must submit your return via eFiling. If you’re not registered yet for eFiling, go to the SARS website and follow simple steps to register.
If you’ve forgotten your eFiling login details, you’ll also get instructions from SARS’ website on what to do.
#2: When you complete your ITR12, have the following relevant material at hand as you may need to refer to them. Just bear in mind that you mustn’t submit this material to SARS:
  • IRP5: This is the tax certificate your employer issues to you.
  • Certificates you received for local interest income earned on investments, etc.
  • Any other documents that relate to income received or accrued, such as remuneration that hasn't been reported to SARS by your employer, or business or investment income, etc.
  • Details of medical expenses you paid and medical scheme contributions that you made.
  • The relevant certificates that reflect the retirement annuity fund contributions you made.
  • A logbook and other documents to support your business travel expenses (if a travel allowance is part of your remuneration or if you have the right to use a company car taxable benefit).
  •  Any other documents that relate to allowable deductions you want to claim.
#3: If you want to file from a mobile device, download SARS’ Smartphone App.
#4: If you need help while eFiling online, access Help-You-eFile, a free service available to all eFilers. Simply click on the Help-You-eFile icon on your eFiling login page or at any point during your eFiling session to be connected quickly to a friendly SARS agent who will help you complete your ITR12.
If you don’t submit your return on time it will result in harsh penalties. Make sure you meet the November 21 deadline now that SARS has given you these handy tips.
